The wine

The Viura and Malvasia grapes in this Conde de Haro white come from the same high areas as those used to make Prado Enea. The north-facing vines ensure a gradual maturation and protect the grapes from excessive heat. Harvesting takes place in the middle of September and is carried out completely by hand with grapes placed in small crates, thus preserving the whole clusters. Afterwards, only the free-run juice from a very light pressing ferments in oak tanks and rests there until the end of April. Immediately after that, the second fermentation occurs in bottle and then a repose on the horizontal which lasts for 14 months.

In the glass it exhibits a golden colour with greenish flecks and persistent tiny bubbles. On the nose, citrus and floral aromas prevail, supported by hints of honey, dried fruits and nuts, and vanilla. On the palate, the creaminess from the lees combines to perfection with the freshness derived from its acidity, and the bubbles subtly drive the wine. A flavoursome body and perfumed aromas with a delicate toasty undertone. An elegant, spicy and slightly bitter finish.

Wine critics reviewsReviews by Parker

The sparkling Cava 2019 Conde de Haro was produced with Viura and 30% Chardonnay grapes. It achieved 11.8% alcohol and has very good freshness and acidity and is dry at 2.4 grams of residual sugar. It refermented in bottle where it was kept with the lees for some 18 months. It has a smoky and yeasty nose, small bubbles that give it texture and length. Very drinkable if not very profound. This is a wine they started in 1977 under the name Mugamar under the appellation Cava where they have remained ever since. 34,800 bottles produced. This was disgorged in March 2022.
