Aleatico

A subtly aromatic red grape, the Aleatico is typical of the Italian Tyrrhenian coast. On average productivity, according to some it is native to Greece, according to others it is a biotype of black muscatel, but it has been documented in Italy since the fourteenth century. It gives reds of a ruby colour with violet reflections and delicate but clearly aromatic, floral and fruity scents. Usually steel alone, in the more experimental and full-bodied versions it reveals good minerality, sapidity, jammy and sometimes toasted notes. On the palate it has graceful body, usually soft and velvety tannins, with fruity returns. Dry vinified, it excels above all in Maremma, also in the rosé version, in Lazio in the area of Gradoli and Lake Bolsena, in Puglia. In the last two cases, it is also excellent as a passito, with exaltation of the fruity and jammy notes. Particularly successful in the Tuscan Archipelago, where it gives life to Elba Aleatico Passito DOCG and is also excellently vinified in Capraia.
