Almansa

Situated in the far south-east of Albacete province, Almansa is one of the historic vine-growing areas forming part of the geography of Castilla-La Mancha. Despite its overall size, the region only numbers 13 wine producers owing to the fact that it was traditionally known for bulk wine production.

In present times the situation has changed and the most widely planted variety, the Garnacha Tintorera, when handled carefully in the vineyard, is showing great potential and producing wines that are receiving increasingly more praise and appreciation from the wine critics.

Considering its geographical location between the La Mancha plateau and the Mediterranean coast, the poor quality of its soils and the altitude of its vineyards at above 700m, the fine acidity of its red wines manages to balance out the high tannin content and results in well-balanced wines with a lot of personality.
