Wine from Getariako Txakolina

The geographical area of the Getariako Txakolina (Txakoli de Getaria) Designation of Origin extends throughout Gipuzkoa. In just over 400 hectares, the vines, mostly trained on trellises, belong to the Hondarrabi Zuri variety (90%).

With the designation of origin since 1989, it suffered a major crisis at the end of the 19th century due to the abolition of protectionist laws, the entry of foreign wines and the appearance of successive plagues and diseases such as phylloxera and mildew. In the 20th century, a group of winegrowers began a major recovery and renovation of the still ongoing sector.

Today, the white wines of Getaria are well-defined, floral and slightly herbaceous wines in which it is unusual to find a trace of carbonic that does nothing more than enhance their natural freshness.
