The wine
20 Aldeas is the latest addition to the list of splendid wines from Condado de Haza. With this premium organic wine, the Fernández Rivera family aims to rejuvenate the company and adapt to new market demands. The wine is named after an historic event during the Reconquest of the Iberian peninsula, when in 1011 the fortified Condado de Haza became the centre of the Comunidad de Villa y Tierra de Haza region with rich lands spread among 20 small villages (aldeas, in Spanish).
What does this wine taste like?
Presented under the Vino de la Tierra de Castilla y León label, the final result is a wine brimming with the personality and strength of the land, and the wisdom and experience of the winery. A broad wine with rounded tannins and a lingering finish, it displays a good body and plenty of character. A modern wine, yet one which conserves the delicacy of ripe fruit and the elegance and depth of a balanced use of wood.

The winery
Condado de Haza
In the mid 1980s, Alejandro Fernández came across a south-facing hillside, gently sloping down to the banks of the River Duero, that encompassed exactly the right conditions for growing some of the region's best Tempranillo vines, and producing complex, balanced wines that exemplified this grape variety's finest traits and nuances. It took three years of hard negotiating to acquire the various small plots on the hillside, but by 1989 the first 80 hectares had been planted,...
