The wine

The play on words used to give this wine its name is a clue to the 'danger' we risk from drinking it. A mixture of Trepat, the name of the grape variety, and atrapat, which means 'trapped' in Catalan. Who can resist being captured by this young energetic and pleasant wine?

Cherry-coloured with glints of ruby red and a medium intensity, it combines delicate aromas of herbs and spices alongside cherries and blackberries on the nose. A little later, hints of dust and liquorice appear and an elegant note of violets in the background. It has a fresh and spongy mouth, with a reasonable level of acidity and controlled tannins — making it a fruit-forward wine rather than a sweet or characterless one. Bitter, spicy and juicy, the freshness of forests and the spongy feeling of strawberry sweets blend together in the mouth, with the odd hint of minerals.

It is a gentle and juicy wine, easy to interpret but with enough body to be suited to many moments or food pairings. It should be served cool (at 14º or even 12ºC) to bring out its liveliness.

The two harvests carried out for the wine's production (an early harvest to conserve the fruit's acidity, and a later one to gain intensity) and the double vinification (carbonic maceration as well as the more usual process) are the key to combining the best of each option. This careful process together with the fact that they use grapes from old vines, planted at altitude in chalky-clay soil and cultivated following organic farming guidelines, makes it easy to understand how you can be trapped by the Atrepat.
