The wine

The Augustus Forum winery, located in El Vendrell (Tarragona), began its initiation into the wine world in the 1980s, planting the first vines just a few kilometres from the sea and a stone's throw from the former Via Augusta, from which the winery derives its name. Nowadays, the Roca family's winery with brothers Albert and Oriol at the helm, lies surrounded by vineyards, in the exact style of a Bordeaux château. Elegance and diligence have become its distinguishing traits. Its Forum vinegar is used in the kitchens of the most refined restaurants all over the world and its wines enjoy great popularity and prestige among sector specialists.

Figuring among its extensive range of wines, which features such individual products as the single varietal Augustus Cabernet Franc (pioneering in its style) and Trajanus, one of the most aristocratic wines emanating from the Penedés, one wine shines out brightly: the Augustus Chardonnay. It boasts 25 years of history to look back on. Since then it has constantly occupied a well-deserved place on the podium of great Spanish whites. Whether it's because of its evocative golden colour, its refined aromas or due to the silkiness of its mouthfeel, the Augustus Chardonnay is always a unique wine with a validation that becomes stronger by the year.

Fermented and matured on its lees in French oak barrels from Nevers for four months, the integration of the oak is magnificent and readily discernible in the olfactory phase. Crystallised lemon, white flowers, aniseed toffee, dried fruits and nuts make up a faultless aromatic element. Balance continues on the palate, exhibiting just the right amount of volume, refreshing touches of lime and tropical fruit along with refined traces of bitterness which bestow extra grandeur. The buttery creaminess melds with hints of quince and almond skin in a finish that slowly arrives. This wine develops by the second, and would welcome a good decanting and also being served in a wide-bowled glass, white Burgundy style.

Celler Avgvstvs Forvm

Celler Avgvstvs Forvm

Cellers Avgvstvs Forvm is a small family-owned winery located in the Baix Penedès region. In 1983 they acquired a property that lies right alongside the ‘Via Augusta’, and named the winery after this old Roman road. The land, with its calcareous soils, fairly shallow and stony in texture, was converted into vineyards which offer a glimpse of the Mediterranean Sea. Later on, in 1990, after they had carried out some highly successful field trials in growing vines, they decided...
