The wine

Paraphrasing the words of Elena Adell, the winemaker at Bodegas Azpilicueta, we'd say the Azpilicueta Reserva results from a definite intention: to produce a wine which clearly indicates the characteristics of the vintage, based on traditional varieties.

This is a wine with a strong personality, an elegant palate and balanced body, which is made in the classic Rioja style founded on Tempranillo, Graciano and Mazuelo. The grapes, rigorously selected, come from Fuenmayor, a vineyard enjoying a varied topography with a combination of soils and orientations, adding an extraordinary complexity to the wines.

It appears a lovely ruby colour with brick-red flecks, and exhibits evocative scents of vanilla, dried fruits and nuts, and wild berries. It's silky and delicate on the palate, with an intense, fine nuance, brought about by a lengthy refinement in bottle. Always among the Rioja's best-rated Reservas and with a great price-pleasure relationship.
