The wine
Are you looking for an original, easy to drink wine at a good price? Baby Bad Boy. The youngest member of the Bad Boy family, created by Jean-Luc Thunevin - the famous Bordeaux rebel, the big "Bad Boy" or “black sheep” as Robert Parker affectionately called him - is a lovely, “playful” wine: at times appearing soft and warm, while at others lively and fresh.
Baby Bad Boy constantly plays on this duplicity, an enriching contrast, always in natural balance: Bordeaux classicism with Mediterranean expressiveness, freshness cloaked in warmth, fruit and juiciness refined with finesse and roundness... This is a young wine, but of superior quality.
Baby Bad Boy is labelled as 'Vin de France'; new French legislation allows blends of grapes of differing origins and recognises the quality of wines such as this one, which is made with 70% Merlot from Saint-Émilion (Bordeaux) and 30% Grenache from Maury (Rosellón), yet another "licence" illustrating the creativity and singularity of Jean-Luc Thunevin, quite a notable figure in the wine-growing world and one of the pioneers in the production of what we have all now come to know as “garage wines”.
Baby Bad Boy exhibits very elegant aromas (strawberries, blueberries, ripe fruit aromas), reveals a very clean and rounded nose, refined, with subtle smoky notes and a mineral background that is probably due to Maury’s slatey soil. On the palate it has a powerful attack but its tannins are incredibly smooth and it is light-bodied; this is a very easily drinkable wine, with a pleasant sweet touch and a slightly bitter background. When first tasted, it comes over as a bit on the wild side, as though that fine bitterness wanted to do battle with the sweetness (which is why we recommend that you open the bottle at least half an hour before serving), but they do complement each other and win us over. Enjoy it thoroughly now, at an ideal point in time, although its powerfulness will invigorate it for another couple of years to come.
