The wine

A family history that began in 1349. A story that today Alessandra Bindi Sergardi, the fierce and determined spokesperson of the excellence of Chianti Classico, manages masterfully and with charisma. The soils owned by the family are among the highest performing of what is today one of the most recognised and significant names in the Italian wine panorama. The area is, in fact, Castelnuovo Berardenga, made up of marlstone and alberese stone, that guarantees a direct, territorial, vertical and naturally long-lived Sangiovese.

The I Colli estate is located in the northernmost part of the province of Siena, in the territories of Monteriggioni and Vagliagli, and therefore an area of Chianti Classico that has yet to be explored. Yet I Colli represents the history and soul of the 23 generations of the Bindi Sergardi family, who built this hamlet at the end of the 1400s.

The land of this estate, which stands at an altitude of about 350 metres above sea level, is distinguished by a particular limestone known as "Giallo di Siena" and famous throughout the world for the precious blond marble it produces. In addition, there is also alberese, a characteristic calcareous-marly soil that makes the Sangiovese of Chianti Classico great.

Ser Gardo is the Chianti Classico of the I Colli estate, dedicated by the winery to Niccolò Sergardi, one of the elders of the family. Niccolò, known as "ser Gardo", lived in the 16th century and was one of the Guardians of the city of Siena, one of the highest municipal magistrates.

Intense ruby red in colour, Ser Gardo reveals a rich bouquet of fresh fruit, with particular notes of cherry and strawberry. The palate, soft and balanced, blends with the full flavour and makes this wine particularly juicy and satisfying. Persistent and elegant, it is an authentic expression of Sangiovese.

A great barrel-aged red wine, it goes well with traditional dishes such as red meats, both roasted and preserved in salt, game and mature cheeses. It is also excellent with typical Mediterranean first courses.

Bindi Sergardi

Having twenty-three generations of winemakers and almost seven hundred years of aristocratic family traditions behind you are not an everyday occurrence. A family of bishops and captains, but also of wine growers, the Bindi Sergardi have been operating in Tuscany since 1349. At the helm, today, Nicolò and his daughter, Alessandra, are among the most active and interesting personalities in the Tuscan oenological world. The family currently works on three excellent estates:...
