The wine

New trends are very much in thanks to Cantos de Valpiedra. The Finca Valpiedra junior joined the list of the new generation of modern Riojas with its first 2005 vintage. It is the extreme opposite of the classic: powerfully intense in colour with thick tears. Fervently 100% Tempranillo, down to its roots.

As we pick up the glass, we get reminded of the warmth of very compact dark fruit, aromas of fermentation and all the relentless energy of dark roast, pure tobacco and new wood. The aromatic richness expresses itself totally and forcefully on the palate: an intense explosion of full-on fruit, an oily-rich feel and a taste of finely grained wood, finishing with a sweetly luscious touch. A wine to stimulate the senses!

Aged for 12 months in French (70%) and American (30%) oak barrels.

Wine critics reviewsReviews by Parker

The modern and fruit-driven 2018 Cantos de Valpiedra comes from younger vines and stonier soils after they did a soil study, showing the alluvial character through moderate alcohol (13%) and good acidity (pH 3.62). So, the wines comes through as medium-bodied, balanced and fresh, with a vibrant palate and fine tannins. It's nice how integrated the oak is after one year in barrel. 150,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in January 2021.
