The wine

Tintin may have had his famous blue oranges, but Jeff Carrel has his orange wine. And not just any orange wine. Produced with the "non ouillé" method which involves leaving space in the barrel for the yeast layer known as 'flor' to appear, Chat Gris is an orange wine with a long ageing process and the spirit of great dry 'rancio' wines.

What does this wine taste like?

It displays an intense orange almost amber, colour and delights the nose with fragrances of nuts (toasted almonds), plums, quince, rum flambé bananas, walnut liqueur and a spicy sensation of a Moroccan bazaar. It has a smooth, full and complex taste and feel in the mouth. Delicate acidity and tannins are perfectly matched to a well-integrated alcohol content. It is a fleshy and somewhat earthy wine with a fresh finish reminiscent of dry orange peel and orange blossom tea.

Jeff Carrel

Jeff Carrel

Despite not having a family background in the world of winemaking, Jeff Carrel's intense passion for wine led to him making a dramatic change to his life in 1991, giving up everything to devote himself to his true love. He took up oenology studies and travelled around working for different French wineries in regions like the Loire, Alsace, and Languedoc. Finally, with just his backpack as his companion, he arrived in Roussillon where he started to set up his personal wine-making...
