The wine

Château du Chatelard Fleurie Vieux Granits is made from Gamay grapes from the region of Fleurie, in the north of Beaujolais. Its name is a reference to the old decomposed pink granite soils so common in the appellation which create particularly smooth and elegant wines as opposed to the more concentrated style of wines produced in nearby Moulin-à-Vent and Morgon. The soil lends a floral and aromatic personality to the wine; wonderfully elegant but without excessive embellishments.

Grapes are harvested by hand from vines over 75 years old and refined in cement tanks for 8 months to ensure Cuvée Les Vieux Granits embodies the purity of ripe fruit. It displays a bright ruby-red colour with purple glints in the bottle and red fruit such as cherries and plums delight the nose alongside spicy notes in a splendidly intense result with a magnificent aromatic balance. It is clean and direct in the mouth with delicate but notable tannins giving structure and intensity to a deliciously fruity wine.
