The wine
Pignan cannot be considered as the second wine from Château Rayas as, despite being made from Grenache too, its fruit comes from a more northern vineyard. The Pignan wine makes up about 20% of the winery's production and its best vintages earn it a place among the best wines from Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Depending on the year, up to 20% of the wine may be sourced from the youngest vines of the Château, although what gives it its true essence is the ochre sandy soils and pebble (galet) covered clay so typical of Châteauneuf-du-Pape.
