The wine

Sicily, the largest of the Mediterranean islands, is a land of beaches and volcanoes, artists and puppets, but it also boasts an excellent cuisine. Its distance from the Italian mainland has given the island a distinct identity, a very special feeling that can be sensed in both its kitchens and its vineyards.

The Nero d'Avola variety, with its sweet tannins and spicy aromas, is the most widely planted red grape on the island and Azienda Agricola Cos one of its most prestigious producers. Their Nero di Lupo is made from organically-grown grapes, fermented with wild yeasts and aged in concrete tanks, and ends up by displaying a clear-cut profile of this varietal.

In each bottle of Nero di Lupo you'll discover an expressive wine that's in no way strident, revealing a subtle maturity and a seductive nose. The hints of volcanic ash, redcurrants and plums combine with spices such as cloves, giving shape to a nose that's intense yet at the same time delicate. Its entry is very fresh and it has a mature mid-palate, but a precise acidity makes it taut enough. It shows all the gracefulness of a wolf (lupo) although no trace of its aggressiveness, and it's black (nero) like the colour of the fruit. Floral, balsamic and rounded on the finish, it exhibits the typical profundity and delicacy of the Azienda Agricola Cos wines.

Azienda Agricola Cos

Founded in 1980 by Giambattista Cilia, Cirino Strano and Giusto Occhipinti, three friends who wanted to look back at what had once been their ancestors' business, the Winery takes its name from the acronym of their surnames. Cos has completely changed Cerasuolo di Vittoria with the adoption biodynamic viticulture principles to allow the wine to express the depth and character of the soil. As Pioneers and dreamers, from 1980 the three founders embarked on a road of uncompromised...
