The wine

Cune was the name given to the first wine bottled at the Haro bodega and its outstanding success led to the subsequent production of the Cune Reserva. Showing respect for tradition, both the Crianza and the Reserva reflect the innovative spirit of this emblematic Rioja Alta winery, always a trusted brand.

In the making of the Reserva, grapes are used from their own vineyards, located in the Rioja Alta; they are hand-picked and ferment in tanks. Afterwards the wine matures in American and French oak barrels for 18 months, acquiring its characteristic finesse. Following a natural clarification, the wine rests for about a year in bottle until the right time arrives for its release onto the market.

Concealed behind the cork of every bottle of Cune Reserva is a red wine that's midway between cherry and garnet in colour, with fine tears. Its interesting aromatic display is dominated by hints of red fruits and liquorice, and supported by a background of toasty notes and sweet spices (cinnamon and vanilla) derived from its oak ageing. On the palate, it's delicate and elegant from start to finish; its rounded tannins provide pleasure in abundance and, in combination with the fruit's character, deliver superb balance. With a lovely fresh finish, swathed in appealing hints of thyme.

Wine critics reviewsReviews by Parker

The iconic red 2018 Cune Reserva, the first wine they ever produced, is a blend of Tempranillo with 15% Garnacha, Graciano and Mazuelo from Haro. 2018 was a classical cooler vintage like many years ago and delivered a wine with 14% alcohol and good freshness. It fermented in 20,000-liter stainless steel vats and matured in French and American oak barrels for 18 months (down from 24). It's a cool and nice vintage, with complexity and fruit and feels developed and taking in tertiary character with hints of forest floor and truffles. It's polished and sleek with fine-grained, chalky tannins. A classical Cvne Reserva from Rioja Alta that is ready now. 500,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in March 2021.

Compañía Vinícola del Norte de España - CVNE

The Compañía Vinícola del Norte de España, CVNE —or 'Cune', as it's known locally in Haro— was founded in 1879 and was one of the first wineries in La Rioja to bottle wine. What started out as the project of two brothers (Raimundo and Eusebio Real de Asúa) continues today in the hands of the same family (now the fifth generation) and comprises four wineries: CVNE, Imperial (an independent winery within the original CVNE winery), Viña Real and Viñedos del Contino....
