Domaine Jaume Altitude 420
2018Spec sheet
The wine
Altitude 420 is an extraordinary red wine from Vinsobres (Rhône) whose name indicates the heights at which its Grenache (60%) and Syrah (40%) vines are cultivated.
What does this wine taste like?
The painstaking work and utmost care and attention applied to its production is seen in Altitude 420's bright red colour and excellent aromas you notice as soon as you lift a glass. Fruits of the forest such as blackcurrant and redcurrants as well as rosemary and ripe plums appear immediately, preparing us for its splendidly blended tannins which accentuate the freshness and brightness of the wine. Its very long, lingering and pleasant finish means it is hard to resist a second sip.

Winemaking
Every single one of the 60,000 bottles they produce at Domaine Jaume is the result of a careful process involving harvesting the fresh fruit by hand, a complete destemming, and a partial pressing to allow fermentation to start and bring out the grapes' primary aromas. After 15 days in vats, the wine is partly aged in oak casks with the aim of adding body and depth while maintaining all its original fruity aromas.
Vineyards
The vines are cultivated in the idyllic 'Les Collines' terroir on south-east facing sandy loam-clay slopes. These soils together with the cooler climate at this altitude ensure a slow ripening of the grapes and elegant tannins and aromas in the resulting wine. The average age of vines is around 40 years old and they produce yields of 40 hl/hectare.

Domaine Jaume
Facing the majestic Mount Ventoux, the extensive Domaine Jaume spreads out into two of the four areas of the Cru de Vinsobres appellation, Le Coteau and Les Collines, and produces wines under the Côtes du Rhône and Vinsobres labels. The modern chapter in the history of this 92-hectare estate in Vinsobres began in the 1920s when Henri Chauvet and Baron Le Roy introduced the idea of appellations (controlled designations of origin) in...
