Wine critics reviewsReviews by Parker and Jancis Robinson

The 2020 El Jardín de las Iguales Macabeo was produced with the grapes from a singular vineyard that was planted in 1890 on sloped slate soils. The grapes were picked on September 4 and fermented in a 1,000-liter oak foudre with indigenous yeasts after 40 hours of maceration with the skins. It matured in the foudre for 12 months. It has 13.5% alcohol and remarkable freshness (pH 3.12 and 6.2 grams of acidity). It follows the line of the 2019; I see both vintages as very complete, nuanced, elegant and fresh. This is a little slimmer, and there's more electricity. It's a little more floral and very tasty. Only 812 bottles were filled in April 2022.

Real substance and some lemon spine but this is still quite youthful. I feel as though there is quite a future for this wine.

Bodegas Frontonio

Bodegas Frontonio is named after Saint Frontonio, patron saint of the north-eastern Spanish town of Epila. Legend says that after Saint Frontonio was beheaded by the Romans, his body was buried in a cemetery and his head cast into the River Ebro. Miraculously his head was found upstream on the bank of the River Jalon, close to where the Bodegas Frontonio winery is located. Exactly as they're presented, they're the wine of a particular land, the résumé of a landscape. A passion...
