The wine

Fabla represents the essence of the town of Calatayud, the history and language of Aragon, its landscapes, windy climes, and the strong character of the people. It is part of the Las Pizarras Collection wine selection, named after the slate soils (pizarra means slate) which give minerality and equilibrium to the wines.

Grenache grapes from over forty-year-old bush vines planted at high altitudes (800 metres) give an elegance and fragrance to this intense wine. The gravel soil covering and cultivation using bush vines means an extremely precise hand-picking at harvest time is required to ensure the low yield of grapes (2,500 kg/ha) are in perfect conditions when they reach the cellar. The short time it spends in wood halts the force of the wine without affecting its essence. The Fabla wine offers hints of stone dust, cherry and plum skins, precise liqueur, fine bitter tones, minty hints, and an intense cherry colour. Balsamic aromas of rosemary and scrubland appear, and, above all, an intense minerality from the broken-up slate on the ground, all embellished with reminders of candied strawberries and liquorice. Without doubt, Fabla is a wine capable of representing the high quality of this region ... and at an excellent price!
