Grown organically in the rolling Faenza hills, the Sangiovese, along with the sun-dried Albana, is one of the principal varieties used by Fattoria Zerbina, a winery which has succeeded in getting a reassessment of this region and the quality of its wines. The winery's vineyards enjoy different exposures, but the main contingent of Sangiovese growing here can generally be found on some favourable lands with clay and chalky soils that endow the wine with special body and freshness.
Resulting from a very carefully selected harvest, the Ceregio made by Fattoria Zerbina is a straightforward, lively interpretation of a Sangiovese grown in the Romagna region. Vinified in steel and concrete tanks, the end result is a wine that's a bright ruby colour with well-refined and clearly-defined aromas: notes of red fruits on a background of dried violets, aromatic herbs and darker touches of earth and undergrowth. On the palate, it reveals all its great drinkability with a remarkable freshness and vivid yet at the same time soft tannins, flavoursome, persistent and with the same complexity encountered on the nose.
A wine which, unlike most, expresses the balance and harmony exhibited by the Sangiovese in this region and which brings to mind Romagna's gentle hills and the warm Adriatic breezes that give flavour and profundity to its wines.
