Fèlsina Toscana Rosso Fontalloro

Fontalloro comes from several Sangiovese vineyards located in the Chianti Classico denomination, where they are mostly exposed to the southwest and lie at an altitude ranging between 330 and 407 metres above sea level. Here the vineyards grow on mainly rocky, chalky and clay soils, with sand, silt, small pebbles and marine sediment also present the closer you get to the Crete Senesi region, situated to the south of Siena.

The best grapes from these vineyards are harvested manually at their optimal point of ripeness and transported to the winery, where in the following spring they commence an ageing period of two years in French oak barrels before blending occurs.

Fontalloro's exuberant personality emerges in the glass with notes of ripe cherry, plums and forest fruits, opening up the way for other enveloping hints of tobacco, cedar wood, liquorice, rhubarb and damp earth. This complex bouquet is rounded off by the addition of balsamic and mineral suggestions which endow considerable sensuality to the ensemble and are slowly revealed through touches of sweetness and austerity.

On the palate, its flavour lives up to expectations and it appears rounded, with aromas of red fruits, tobacco and liquorice, and a vibrant acidity that leads to refilling the glass now and again. Smooth, fruity and with characteristically fine tannins, Fontalloro is a Sangiovese that's well-balanced and a very pleasant drink. A superb wine that brings cheerful enjoyment and reminds us what a simple pleasure a good bottle can be.
