Joan Àngel surprises us with a new wine from his collection of special vineyards. On this occasion, a single varietal Hairy Grenache, a very singular and sincere wine, the result of many years of work and which aims to convey the authenticity and uniqueness of an extraordinary variety.
Its arrival on the market could not have had a better introduction: the Guia de Vins de Catalunya, in its 8th edition (in 2015), considered it, together with Finca Mas La Rosa, from Vall Llach, the best wine of Catalonia; both with 9.79 points.
Hairy Grenache is a mutation of the more widely known red Grenache, very well adapted in the Terra Alta area, and La Personal d'Edetària comes from a single estate with vines of this variety, vines over 60 years old. The soil, which was the course of a river in ancient times, is composed of boulders of different diameters that give the grapes special characteristics. One hectare of land, with around 3,000 vines, from which only 1,200 bottles are produced due to the low productivity of the land and the strict selection process to which the grapes are subjected.
La Personal d'Edetària is an elegant wine, with a high robe and a diversity of tones. Aromatically very fresh at the beginning, with a generous range of red fruits that allow us to appreciate strawberries, cherries and berries, complemented by notes of Mediterranean herbs: thyme, rosemary, liquorice... and fennel, an aniseed profile very characteristic of red Grenaches. On the finish, the wine leaves us with hints of cocoa and dried leaves, and a balsamic background.
A really complex wine, with great freshness in the mouth, very fruity, a slightly rustic tannicity, a sober and mature wine without edges or dryness. A lively acidity gives it a smooth and fresh passage through the mouth, which also lengthens the aftertaste.
