Guado al Melo Bolgheri Antillo

Not the usual Bolgheri. After all, the principal variety of this elegant Antillo is the Sangiovese, with a 70% stake in the coupage, a choice that will come as no surprise to anyone familiar with the philosophy of Poder Guado al Melo, a strong believer in fine old traditions, the wellbeing of the wines and a good job well done. (A point to remember is that, although today the international varieties are predominant in this area, the Sangiovese has always been the region's most representative variety and part of the Bolgheri vine-growing tradition).

The vineyards from which the grapes are sourced that go into the making of Guado al Medo Antillo are located on mountainous soils that are alluvial in origin. They benefit from the warmth of the Mediterranean climate and a marked difference between day and night temperatures. Antillo, whose name means "sunny place", is an honest, vibrant wine. On the nose, the fruit aromas of blackberries, redcurrants and cherries stand out, but also evident are sweet spices, flowers and the odd subtle vegetal note. There is perfect harmony apparent on the palate, with crunchy fruit, freshness and a good tannic structure. Undoubtedly, a genuinely elegant wine.
