The wine

Jermann is the story of a passion that comes from far away. Anton Jermann, the founder, left the Austrian wine region of Burgenland and then the vineyards in Slovenia to take root in Friuli Venezia Giulia. It was 1881. Here he continued his wine-growing business, which Silvio Jermann, thanks to his genius and imagination, took a quantum leap step in the 1970s to bring the winery to the peak of Italian and then international wine.

The Jermann farmland cultivated with the organic farming method is about 18 hectares, concentrated in the areas of Moraro, Farra d'Isonzo and Dolegna del Collio (Gorizia). Jermann BJO organic production is grown without the use of chemical fertilizers, pesticides and herbicides. Jermann is a winery that communicates with the world every day but the focus, however, is always on the concrete things that make a wine great. In short, love for the land is the cornerstone of this farm, a great pearl of the Collio, renowned for its exceptional whites but also for its robust and traditional reds.

Blau&Blau is produced from Blaufränkisch (Franconia) grapes for 95% and Blauburgunder (Pinot Noir) for a small 5%. The vineyard grows on a soil originating from the Eocene relief of Monte Fortino which led to the spread of an extensive area of alluvial materials around it. Franconia is a grape variety rooted in the history of this area of Friuli. The banquets of a wealthy nineteenth-century family in Gorizia were washed down with Franconia, a grape which was appreciated and endorsed by the Austro-Hungarian Empire throughout the whole North-East. A variety cultivated by the Jermanns since the 19th century, it originates from Croatia or from the Main Valley, Germany.

After 16 months in barrique, Blau&Blau expresses a rather intense splendid ruby red colour. The scent is somewhat vinous, intense and youthful, harmonious, with herbaceous and undergrowth notes. On the palate it is dry, elegant, fairly full-bodied, balanced. It goes well with Central European dishes. The combination with a smoked pork loin with apple mustard, kren and vegetable compote is very pleasant.
