The wine

The site: the Mâcon-Lugny regional appellation area is a terroir in the south of Burgundy. The place called Les Crays is located in Saint-Gengoux-de-Scissé, 30 km north of Pouilly-Fuissé, 15 km east of Cluny and 300m above sea level. Its western exposure allows it to preserve freshness in this warmer region than elsewhere in Burgundy. History and Tradition: the oldest traces of vines in the Mâcon-Lugny appellation date back to the beginning of the 10th century. In 916, acts relate the donation by the abbey of CLUNY of a domain located in Saint-Gengoux-de-Scissé. The soil: clay and limestone from the Jurassic era constitute a very favorable ground for Chardonnay. It is a wine that presents a lot of spontaneity. It combines the maturity of the fruit, freshness and an almost saline texture. Brilliant color, floral and peach nose, gourmet palate with a “mineral” finish. It can therefore be served with summer salads, raw or grilled fish, tempura, roast chicken, vegetable and shrimp wok, goat cheese. Vintage: Exceptional weather conditions resulted in a very healthy and high quality harvest. The whites have a very nice balance, an aromatic profile of flowers and ripe fruit.

Wine critics reviewsReviews by Jancis Robinson

Pretty simple nose but very charming, almost rich palate. Almost Thevenet-like in its richness! Exciting and very flattering and dramatic. No bargain though, alas.
