The wine
A wine eager to delight and with a strong personality, just like the main character in the classic Spanish novel by Fernando Rojas it is named after: mature yet fresh, romantic and bewitching.
La Celestina is one of the splendid red wines produced by the Atalayas de Golbán winery. Founded in 2004, the winery is the younger sibling of, and located beside, the historic Dominio de Atauta winery. Atalayas de Golbán wines are clear examples of the style of wine that has brought international success to Ribera del Duero. They display a wonderful personality but at very affordable prices.
What does this wine taste like?
A harmonious balance first detected in the nose is confirmed on drinking. The first taste transmits a sensation of maturity, soon balanced with its wild acidity. The measured toast flavours it gained from its time in wood add cocoa and spices to the flavours while elegant hints of violets come to the front every time you lift the glass. Its alcohol melts into notes of damp soil and liquorice, creating a wonderful drink to seduce every corner of the mouth. A long and flavoursome, complex and elegant wine, which is ideal for accompanying a wide range of elaborate dishes. In fact, we could easily imagine La Celestina on a table full of rich food in a typical inn back in the Middle Ages.

Vineyards
A combination of Ribera del Duero grapes are used to create La Celestina – blending the freshness and red fruit aromas from vines cultivated in San Esteban de Gormaz in the Soria province with the structure, unctuosity and riper aromas provided by grapes from Burgos. The firm cultivates 40 hectares of old vines at altitude and the lack of rainfall leads to very moderate yields and top quality fruit.
