La Estacada Syrah-Merlot Cosecha de Familia
2016Spec sheet
The wine
The small DO Uclés appellation is hidden away in the shade of the big La Mancha names. Located between Aranjuez and Cuenca, the Finca la Estacada winery makes the most of the Mediterranean-influenced continental climate to produce wines which are a clear example of the injustice and mistake people often make when ignoring or belittling wines from small appellations.
What does this wine taste like?
The winery's excellent work is appreciated as soon as the wine is poured into the glass, with a wonderfully dark and intense Picota cherry colour enhanced thanks to its time spent ageing in the bottle. Its fruity essence is enjoyed in all its splendour thanks to the splendid balance of grapes. The typical maturity and soothing herbal tones of Syrah grown in warm climates (aromas of jam and mint), combine perfectly with the elegant green tones (peppers and blanched tomatoes) and opulence of Merlot to design a harmonious wine with a long life ahead of it. It delights with a fresh herbal nose of fine wood, scrubland and spices (pepper, cloves and vanilla). Ten months in Allier oak barrels are felt through subtle toasted tones enveloping the wine's fruit and adding feelings and volume. Rounded and elegantly bitter, juicy and pleasant, despite a certain liqueur sensation, it is a wine more than ready to seduce fans of structured and characterful red wines.

Winemaking
To create La Estacada Syrah-Merlot Cosecha de Familia only the best Syrah and Merlot grapes are carefully selected and destemmed before being macerated with their skins for 5 days. The must is then left to ferment for a week before the wine then undergoes a second maceration process still with the grape skins.

The 238 hectares are divided up into plantations of mostly Tempranillo (106), Merlot (32), Syrah (8), Airén, Macabeo...
