The wine

Discovering the exceptional nature of Priorat's terroir without having to pay a high price for each bottle is becoming easier by the day thanks to initiatives like the one (luckily, not the only one) offered us by Marc and Adriá Pérez. Especially with their wine L'Inconscient, a wine which, straightforwardly and without renouncing either complexity or refinement, enables us to enjoy that “other”, more accessible and above all affordable, Priorat. One to thoroughly enjoy.

The Pérez family are an undeniable benchmark in this highly regarded denomination (Mas Martinet, Cims de Porrera), and Marc and Adriá vinify the wines of this most individual project in the emblematic winery of Cims de Porrera; making quite a personal statement, complete with a striking label, both original and artistic, which will no doubt succeed in attracting younger consumers.

What does this wine taste like?

L'Inconscient is a fresh, lively wine, but serious, complex and profound as well. The Cariñena grape, which makes up 30% of the wine's coupage, appears rather shy in the glass; the first impression is of a compact nose, somewhat closed, but in due course it does reveal its merits (we recommend opening the bottle at least half an hour before drinking). Once opened up, it begins to release aromas of great elegance, from fruits gathered in the forest (wild fruits, spicy notes) to velvety aromas (rose fragrance). It seems as though the wine is suddenly waking up after a long sleep.

There is a similar reaction on the palate. It starts off tasting a little dry, but in time, it also exhibits both a slight sweetness and strawberry flavours. The fruit is good quality, handled well (short macerations), and the wine is very easy to drink, clean, honest, with a creamy feel but light touch, with mineral and earthy notes, a smooth structure and well-integrated, refreshing acidity.
