The wine

Located in Sanlúcar de Barrameda, where it is considered quite an institution, Bodegas Hidalgo La Gitana is currently run by the fifth generation of the Hidalgo family and possesses more than 200 hectares of vineyards on the Balbaina and Miraflores estates, the best in the Jerez District. The winery, barely 300 metres from the mouth of the River Guadalquivir, benefits from a maritime influence for maturing the wines, which leaves its mark upon the ageing and special characteristics of their range of Manzanillas, Amontillados and Olorosos.

Manzanilla La Gitana is undoubtedly the winery's star, a Manzanilla made from the must of Palomino Fino grapes, revealing delicate, pungent, complex aromas, typical of its production method and ageing. On the palate, it appears fresh, dry, light, and with just a touch of bitterness.

Wine critics reviewsReviews by Jancis Robinson

Chalky, dusty and salty aroma. Hay. Smoky, lapsang. Dry and really tangy and super-fresh, with a slight chew adding length. There's even something lightly floral here but not perfumed. Herbal tea (dried leaves), mouth-watering finish.
