The wine
Few wines express the wonders of Rioja for such a great price as Reserva de Murrieta. A wine embodying not only the traditions and past of Rioja, but the present and future too. Even fewer wines balance the characteristics and qualities of altitude, soils and grape varieties as precisely as this one does year after year. Not many wines are capable of offering this quality either in a production of around a million bottles a year. The exceptional Finca Ygay estate is one of the main reasons why Marqués de Murrieta is considered to be one of the best wines in Rioja. A reference wine which can be summed up in three words: elegance, balance and regularity. Undoubtedly, one of the greats.
What does this wine taste like?
Marqués de Murrieta Reserva is an excellent and harmonious wine with a fragrant and feminine nose. Refined fruit combines perfectly with floral notes and hints of oak, all carefully balanced by expert winemakers. Juicy and rich in the mouth with elegant spices and a lightly toasted taste. Tannins are barely noticeable thanks to their perfect integration, while a wonderful acidity is reminiscent of traditional Riojas. The more classic aromas of tobacco and pepper blend in with hints of oranges and plums. An elegant result offering a splendid example of just why the winery deserves its prestigious reputation.

Finca Ygay
As the house produces more of this wine than any other, the Murrieta Reserva constitutes a great challenge for the winemaker, since much skill and accuracy is required year after year in managing to combine the different altitudes, soils and grapes of the exceptional Ygay estate.

Marqués de Murrieta
Marqués de Murrieta is one of the most historic Spanish wineries. Its origins date back to 1852 when Luciano de Murrieta started trading his wines in the New World. Today, 170 years later, the impressive Ygay estate seems untouched by the passage of time, but that couldn't be further from the truth. Nowadays, Vicente D. Cebrián-Sagarriga, the present Count of Creixell, manages the winery with his sister Cristina and a skilled young team which understands how to...
