La Salada is a Macabeo vineyard over 60 years old located in Subirats (Penedès), in which there are only 226 white Grenache vines, plants despised by the parents of the current owners of Mas Candí, due to the difficulty of their cultivation. So much so that they came to be considered the black sheep and were given little attention; today, a new approach and the knowledge and sensitivity both in the vineyard and in the cellar of the Mas Candí team have made it possible for the Ovella Negra to become a unique, atypical and personal wine. The result of a particular symbiosis between the Penedès terroir and the Garnatxa Blanca, the gentleness of the most docile Mediterranean and the effort of its makers give shape to a wine full of life, with a clear and direct message. Balsamic, honeyed and floral, it conveys a sensation of purity, of fruit and landscape, of the essence of wine. It has a fine creaminess, the result of its prolonged contact and work with the lees, and a slightly raised colour, after a measured maceration of the skins. The nose grows at every moment, with peaches hiding among thickets of Provençal herbs, with the peel of lemons and mangoes embracing the comforting hints of straw and yeast. Just the right amount of volume on the palate, a minimal reminder of protective carbonation and a citrus oil sensation that coats the cheeks while fine salt stimulates the sides of the tongue. A bitterness on the finish that leads to a long, refined aftertaste, but without artifice, just as nature intended it to be.

The skin-contact white 2021 Ovella Negra is a blend of Malvasia de Sitges, Macabeu, Garnatxa Blanca and Muscat that has the aromatic side of the Moscatel and Malvasía and the effect of four weeks maceration with skins. It's produced and bottled with no added sulfur and has very low alcohol, 10.72%, and good freshness. It's cloudy, light and gulpable but with some kick from the tannins. 9,543 bottles produced. It was bottled in March 2022 after settling in stainless steel.
