Can a Cabernet Sauvignon really surprise us? It doesn't seem an easy prospect, since this is one of the most widely-grown varieties globally. Nonetheless, in every bottle of Montesecondo Il Rospo there's an atypical and very individual Cabernet hiding away.
The grapes are grown according to biodynamic criteria on Tuscan hills in the Chianti Classico region. Only one of the estate's hectares provides Cabernet Sauvignon, the rest are planted with native varieties. As the producers themselves maintain, they haven't tried to make an international Cabernet, but a national one, a local one expressing the land that has given rise to its grapes. The must ferments with native yeasts and the subsequent refinement in concrete tanks helps to reinforce its character, retaining the freshest and smoothest part of the fruit. Just before bottling, the wine receives a tiny dose of sulphur.
Montesecondo Il Rosto is a delicate, rustic, Tuscan Cabernet Sauvignon. The fruit flows without any interference, as the star, the wine's true protagonist. Red and blue flowers, fresh red fruit, cocoa, and earthy aromas, following a day of rain. Vibrant acidity thrills with every sip. After an apparently fragile start, the varietal's resounding character emerges, and seems tempted to shout out "eh, I'm a Cabernet Sauvignon", but chooses to express itself quietly and slowly. The grape variety can be guessed, but the land can be felt. The wine forces you to close your eyes and breathe in deeply, its perfume will penetrate deep inside you.

Excellent tuscan red
Deep and intense, full of dark fruit with good acidity and long finish. A really great representation of naturally made Chianti.
