The territory of Monteregio extends to the south-east of Bolgheri and comprises the so-called Colline Metallifere (metal-bearing hills), in the mountain range of the Alta Maremma Grossetana. Originally from Spain, the Moris family settled here some 200 years ago now and devoted themselves to cultivating a land that was virtually untouched and bountiful, especially as regards wine production.
Nowadays, the winery's estate totals almost 500 ha, of which 37 are located in the Monteregio di Massa Marittima denomination. The vineyards grow on these lands at an altitude that ranges between 80 and 100 metres above sea level, on clay soils with a high limestone content.
Morisfarms Barbaspinosa is made from a coupage in which the Sangiovese predominates, with a small amount of Cabernet Sauvignon. Fermented in concrete tanks, the wine ages for a year in the used oak barrels in which the winery's flagship, Avvoltore, had previously matured.
A dense ruby colour, Barbaspinosa emanates rich enveloping aromas of red and black fruits, cloves, cinnamon and other sweet notes including cherry, raspberry and blackberry on a refreshing menthol background. On the palate it appears warm and smooth, but supported by some firm tannins. A well-made, modern-style, flavoursome and profound wine which delivers a long finish that offers fruit and spicy hints.
