The wine
A powerful and structured red wine with a strong personality, the result of a perfect blend of two of the most loved red grape varieties in the world: Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot.
What does this wine taste like?
Black fruit and vegetal notes but not green ones. Unaggressive, ripe, peppery aromas create an extremely elegant aromatic portrait alongside notes of ripe fruits, leather, caramel, coffee, pencil lead and eucalyptus.
The ageing process serves to round the wine off but not to hide its fruitiness or the minerality of the land. It has a rounded feel in the mouth with notes of fruit and wood perfectly integrated over a canvas of jam and toasted bread. It has a velvety, round and long finish.

Winemaking
The two varieties are vinified separately unless the evolution of their development allows for an earlier blending. They undergo a 25-day maceration followed by malolactic fermentation in an equal combination of new and pre-used barrels. The two wines are then immediately blended together and left to age for between 15 and 18 months in French oak barrels, which have been used once, with frequent decanting.

Vineyards
Cabernet Sauvignon vines planted in La Ermita, the most emblematic estate in Nekeas. It is located in the heart of the valley, near the old San Juan chapel. A poor soil covering which is barely 10 cm deep means the roots have to struggle to find a hold and survive among rocks. The Merlot vines are in the Santa Eulosia estate, the oldest plot run by the winery, found on a south-facing slope of stony ground with very little water retention.

Bodegas Nekeas
Nekeas is situated in the 'valley of the stars', Valdizarbe, where vine cultivation is only made possible due to the presence of the Sierra del Perdón: a mountainous barrier that protects the Nekeas valley from the cold winds of the Pyrenees. The Atlantic (it lies 70 km from the Atlantic Ocean) and Mediterranean climatic influences, and a diverse collection of rocky outcrops due to the irregular nature of its mountain geography (red, white and brownish-grey clay, rocky-stony...
