The wine
The Pago de los Capellanes Crianza is a wine that hardly needs any introduction. It’s one of the main bastions of the Pedrosa de Duero winery, a red which, despite sharing the limelight with the bodega’s four other reds, has managed to get plenty of attention for itself due to its huge personality. It’s a real classic in the Ribera del Duero, a medium-bodied Ribera, long, balanced and very attractive.
What does this wine taste like?
It’s a wine that’s refined and honest on the nose, with the fruit aromas blending well with those resulting from ageing, a harmonious mixture of plums, blackberries, vanilla, pepper and roasted notes and the characteristic aroma of liquorice that’s typical of the Tempranillo variety. On the palate, it’s delicate and firm at the same time, creamy and balsamic.

Winemaking
Harvesting the grapes normally starts in October and the must begins fermenting shortly afterwards, with native yeasts. Once fermentation has finished, the wine is transferred to 300-litre French oak barrels where it will mature and perfect for twelve months before bottling.

Vineyards
As is usual with Pago de los Capellanes, it’s produced solely using Tempranillo grapes grown on calcareous-clay soils, and shares with its bodega companions the elegance and structure which now seem intrinsically part of the Rodero Villa family’s winery.

The winery
Pago de los Capellanes
Right in the heart of the Ribera del Duero, and on lands that once belonged to a chaplaincy back in the 13th to 14th Centuries, the married partnership of Rodero-Villa and their team put much effort into presenting a range of high quality wines, the fruit of “tranquillity, care and patience”.
