Since the beginning of the 20th Century and through three generations, the Paltrinieri winery has been making wines from the Lambrusco di Sorbara variety which grows in the vineyards of their estate in the area known by the name of 'Cristo', the narrow strip of land lying between the Secchia and Panaro rivers.
With 15 hectares of land in what might be called the Sorbara Grand Cru, the team of experts at the Paltrinieri winery each year presents some of the most highly-praised versions of Lambrusco: artisanal wines faithfully keeping to tradition, yet always original. Thanks to the distinguished and meticulous work of Alberto Paltrinieri, among others, the Lambrusco name is currently enjoying a renaissance after long years of oblivion.
Leclisse is a delicate red, due to being produced from just the free-run juice of these excellent Lambrusco di Sorbara grapes from the Cristo area, and a lightly sparkling red because it has undergone a second fermentation using the Charmat method. It's a pleasantly frizzante Lambrusco that's a bright ruby-red colour in the glass; on the nose it exudes intense aromas of red fruits (redcurrants and wild strawberries), citrus fruits, wild roses and raspberry candy, soft yet instantaneous scents, but always fresh, delightful and very appealing.
On the palate it's juicy, and the well-balanced acidity as well as its fine bubbles, seem to refresh and enliven the palate with every mouthful.

Crisp, bone dry Lambrusco
Almost rosé like in colour. Light, refreshing. Drank it on its own but will try with a spag bol or burger next time.

Oh, Lambrusco!
Wonderful. But you need to be into the weird side of wonderful to appreciate this. Extremely dry, with that crab-apple, cidery hint that natural wines can show. Funky, earthy, a bit wild. Did I mention dry? I love this wine, and would recommend it to anyone with an open mind. The grappa from the same cantina is also worth a crack.
