Protos Crianza

The Protos Crianza is the first wine in which many consumers think when we mention the words crianza and Ribera del Duero, a true classic that bases its success on the accuracy and constancy of a pioneer firm in the production of red wines in Peñafiel.

It is made only from the best selected grapes of the Tempranillo variety, from vineyards over 25 years old, facing south to make the most of the sun's rays. The soils are loose and poor, which forces the plants to look for sustenance in depth, thus transferring all the character of the free soils with a predominance of limestone to the glasses.

The fruit is harvested manually and its juice is macerated with the skins while it ferments for about three weeks. Part of its distinctive flavor is explained by its curious aging formula: one third of the wine ages in new French oak barrels, another third in French and American barrels of one year and the remaining third in barrels of both nationalities, although in this case, with two years of age.

From the excellent quality of the fruit and the wise combination of the woods you get a cherry-colored wine with purple edges, with an intense nose of red fruits, spices (vanilla and pepper) and coconut aromas derived from the wood and a minerality that It tells us about the vineyard itself. Its passage through the mouth is powerful, expressive and elegant, full of fruity memories (cherries), but also of roasted tones obtained from the staves. Its acidity measure helps to balance and intensify the character of the wine, leading to a long and slightly smoky finish, absolutely descriptive trace of the personality of the Protos Crianza.
