The wine

The new fine wine from Álvaro Palacios in La Rioja, a single varietal Garnacha, which comes into being to follow in the footsteps of the other two magnificent wines in this family, L'Ermita and La Faraona, wines which express most convincingly the terroir — in this case Alfaro, the town where Álvaro was born — as well as a subtlety and elegance achieved through careful attention and considerable expertise.

Production of Valmira is limited to a 500-litre barrel and another of 300 litres.

Wine critics reviewsReviews by Parker

The single-vineyard 2020 Quiñón de Valmira was produced with the Garnacha field blend that contains 10% other traditional varieties from the Valmira Vineyard at 616 meters in altitude. It fermented with some full clusters with indigenous yeasts in oak vats and matured in oak foudres and bocoyes for 16 months. It's very spicy, peppery and aromatic, floral, a little à la Vosne-Romanée, with depth and complexity, very chalky, nicely textured, tasty, elegant and long. There is concentration and power, with 13.8% alcohol and a pH of 3.48 and 5.1 grams of acidity (tartaric), yet it's very balanced and elegant too. There are 3,973 bottles, 131 magnums and some large formats. It was bottled in April 2022.

Bodegas Palacios Remondo

Bodegas Palacios Remondo

The Palacios family boasts an impressive vinicultural tradition that goes back over the last four generations. However, it was José Palacios Remondo who was really responsible for making the winery what it is today, by planting the best possible selection of La Rioja’s traditional grape varieties, and treating viticulture as his true vocation. Showing great vision for the future, he sent his children (now in charge of the company) to be trained at the best French...
