The wine
The origins or roots of Graciano are to be found in the Spanish wine regions of Rioja and Navarre. Although the variety is cultivated in other parts of Spain and different countries in the New and Old World, there is no place like home and nowhere else does it give such excellent results. It thrives in fresh soils, producing top quality fruit deserving of more fame and respect. In fact, it is often used in blends to add elegance and flair to the final result.
What does this wine taste like?
Raíces seduces the eye with a deep dark Picota cherry colour and glints of violet, before delighting the mouth with a pleasant fullness. Its intense colour promises a floral nose and delicious sensations of wild fruit on the palate. Full-bodied but not overwhelming, it is a comforting wine rather than a heavy one to drink. Its bouquet reminds us of good boxes of cigars but lets the excellent quality of the fruit take centre stage. Aromas of dark fruit-based liqueurs, like blackberries or cranberries, can be appreciated but in the mouth the wine melts on the tongue with an almost ethereal and airy sensation. Cherries and redcurrants, cocoa, a touch of ash, maybe even malt ... discover a new aroma with each swirl of the glass. And if you are in no rush to finish the bottle, you will be rewarded with aromas of violets and spices such as pepper and cinnamon.

Winemaking
Grapes are harvested in late October in the winemaking area of Manchuela to produce Raíces (meaning 'roots' in Spanish). After 12 days fermenting at a controlled temperature, the wine undergoes an extended post-fermentation maceration with its lees for two more weeks to enhance its bouquet. Ageing for six months in 225-litre barrels lends the wine distinguished wooden aromas which wrap around perfectly ripe fruit.

Master Winemakers was founded by Mark Schiettekat in 2000 from the, at the time, a novel idea of making wines tailored to consumers' wishes to control all aspects of the wine, from grape varieties to the final product, including design and pre-set pricing, in consultation with customers; to work with indigenous grape varieties in their terroirs of origin; and not to exclude the most peculiar blends, even if they don't follow the rules, because creativity should never be truncated....
