The wine

Sericis, meaning silky in Latin, is the perfect name for this single-varietal Monastrell red wine produced by Bodegas Murviedro. The wine pays homage to the old Home of Silk (now a museum) in Requena through both its name and its gentle character.

What does this wine taste like?

Displaying an intense red colour with purple glints, Sericis Monastrell is a rounded, silky and spicy (black pepper and cloves) wine with aromas of fine cocoa and cherries in liqueur completing an intense nose. As it warms up after a few minutes in the glass, aromas of bay leaves and minty tones (reminiscent of After Eight mint chocolate) add a soothing and herbal profile to a pleasant background of blackberries. It offers an extremely mature fruitiness which combines perfectly with splendidly elegant tones of toasted oak. A fleshy, complex and unctuous wine with balanced tannins and a toasted finish.

Winemaking

Monastrell grapes are collected by hand, destemmed, and gently pressed. They undergo a pre-fermentation maceration at a low temperature for 3-4 days before selected yeasts are added and fermentation is controlled at a maximum temperature of 26ºC. After 21 days of maceration, the wine is transferred to new French oak barrels where it is left to age for at least 14 months. The final product is suitable for vegetarians and vegans.
