The wine

Spioenkop Pinotage 2020 is an outstanding red wine from South Africa, made in the Elgin wine region. This wine is a pure expression of the Pinotage grape, an indigenous South African variety known for its ability to produce wines of deep complexity and character.

Visually, Spioenkop Pinotage 2020 has a deep ruby red colour with violet hues. On the nose, it displays an aromatic range that includes notes of ripe black fruits such as plums and blackberries, complemented by subtle spicy hints and a slight reminiscence of tobacco and leather, thanks to its barrel ageing.

On the palate, the wine is robust and well-structured, with ripe tannins that add body and texture. The acidity is well balanced, contributing to its freshness and making the wine vibrant and dynamic. Black fruit flavours mingle with notes of bitter chocolate and vanilla, leaving a long, lingering finish.

Spioenkop Pinotage 2020 is ideal with red meats, game dishes or aged cheeses.

Spioenkop Wines

Nestled in the heart of the Elgin Valley, Spioenkop Wines was established in 2008 with Koen Roose as winemaker. With several awards and accolades under their belt, Spioenkop produces wines that have finesse, balance, and purity, with the idiosyncratic character of the winemaker flowing through every bottle. The winemaking philosophy here is low intervention and allowing the wine to have a voice without putting technology and an interfering winemaker in the way. Biodynamic...
