The wine

A blend of Sangiovese, Merlot and Cabernet in equal parts, Al Passo is partially vinified in wood and aged for a little over a year in barrique and truncated cone vats, followed by a year in the bottle. This is the most original and intriguing Tolaini label, a young winery in Castelnuovo Berardenga that channels part of its innovative experimentation into organic vineyard management. Pierluigi, who returned from America to Chianti specifically to devote himself to the territory and wine, gives us a range with a clear but traditional style.

Al Passo is clear, bright ruby-red with a garnet-red tinge with ageing. Clean on the nose, with aromas of red fruits, liquorice and vanilla, spicy notes of black pepper and hints of rhubarb, juniper, graphite and coffee. Good body with fairly soft tannins, aromas of ripe fruit, vanilla and liquorice with a rich and spicy aftertaste.
