The wine

If we were to look up in the dictionary the definition of elegance, we'd probably find a bottle of Via Edetana Blanc there; a creamy, dry, fresh and mineral white which stands out on its own merits among the marvellous products made by the Edetaria winery.

In its production Garnacha Blanca grapes from vines over forty years old are used, and a small percentage of early harvested Viognier which intensifies the freshness and the aromatic element. Only half the wine undergoes ageing for four months in French oak, the other half is pumped over frequently to improve its texture on the palate and to extract all of the grapes' aromatic potential.

A bright yellow colour and a refined nose, enhanced by stone fruit (peach) crystallised fruits, white flowers, confectioner's custard and white pepper. The palate is definitely its strong point, becoming glyceric (resulting from work with the lees), saline, fresh and mineral; extremely well-balanced. Notes appear of matorral, the Mediterranean scrub, Provencal herbs and restrained toasty nuances which don't take their leave until the end of its passage. This is when the Via Edetana Blanc's salinity increases and there's a notable citrus edge making it delicate, fine and elegant. A great white wine that gains new supporters with every vintage and one which pleases everybody due to its balance and gastronomic versatility.

Edetària

Edetària is the personal project of Joan Àngel Lliberia, son of a farmer and grandson of an oenologist, an agricultural engineer by profession and a real enthusiast for his land and vines. His efforts and fine work have earned him a place among the benchmark signature wines of the Terra Alta, a denomination with a very long vine-growing tradition and well-established wine-making experience, which is now aiming to follow in the footsteps of its neighbour, the Priorat.
