Wine critics reviewsReviews by Parker, Jancis Robinson, and Suckling

After the delicious deviance of the corresponding Cuvee Laurence, Weinbach’s 2008 Gewurztraminer Altenbourg returns us to the regularly scheduled program of litchi, rose petal, and smoked meat, with saline and smoky notes as well as the bite of fresh ginger serving – along with strong grapefruit citricity – to counteract the effects of 40 grams of residual sugar. There is a fine triangulation among creaminess of texture, bright refreshment, and levity. This ought to prove delectable over the coming 7-10 years, and perhaps even beyond.

Tremendous vibrancy and life in this, fine honey and honeysuckle character with a long floral finish.

Aromas of stones, cement and lemons. Spicy and aromatic. Medium to full body, deep power and lime and peach-pit undertones. Not to mention the vivid acidity. A great wine. Made from biodynamically grown grapes. Drink or hold.

It's located at the foot of the Schlossberg hill and owes its name, Weinbach ('wine brook'), to the small river which passes through the estate. In 1898 the winery was acquired by the Faller brothers, who then passed it on to Théo, their son and nephew. Théo become an eminent figure in the Alsace...
