The wine

The Zorzettig winery is perched on the top of one of the highest hills in Spessa di Cividale in the heart of the Friuli Colli Orientali appellation, a region in north-east Italy with a long history of winegrowing. Close to the town of Cividale del Friuli, the vineyards in Spessa are located in an excellent terroir with an ideal local climate, protected from the cold winds of the Alps while enjoying beneficial sea breezes from the Adriatic sea. Sandy clay soils boost the freshness and elegance of both their white wines and red wines. Varieties from far away such as Pinot Grigio or Cabernet Franc feel at home here too alongside local grapes. The Zorzettig winery is over a hundred years old and they have bottled their own wines for at least seventy years. Since the 1990s, they have also made a special commitment to working on reforming and making the most of their vineyards and to improving their production and bottling techniques. The terroir, climate, fruit, and winery's experience and know-how come together to produce a truly exceptional wine, the Zorzettig Cabernet Franc.

What does this wine taste like?

A fresh, delicate, free-flowing Cabernet Franc whose bright red colour and transparency reveal a splendid wine with a subtle nose of earthy aromas of violets and a truly silky mouthfeel. Red fruit wraps around herbal notes of undergrowth, bringing an elegantly rustic forest character to the glass. Every sip enhances its floral profile and a hint of ash also appears in the mix. The elegance of loam soils mixes with the freshness from clay to create almost perfectly-balanced sensations in the mouth. Vegetal hints are discrete and hold back, keeping the spotlight on the fruity transparency of a delicious wine. Mint and ground black pepper also appear, but with no sign of the green peppers common in wines from other countries or regions.

Zorzettig

Annalisa is the ambassador of this beautiful Friulian wine family, with a farming history as deep-rooted as it is illustrious in the territory. The vineyards, which are comparable to a Tuscan landscape, are the calling card of the Zorzettig family, which is committed, with oenological rigour, to the enhancement above all of the native vines, with a preference for single varieties in only steel. There are many hectares, about a hundred or so, but they include some of the...
