Cecchetto Giorgio

The Cecchetto family winery is located in Tezze di Piave, in the heart of the Piave DOC area in the Treviso region of Veneto. This family has a long tradition of growing Raboso grapes in this region. The land is quite flat, located along the valley of the Piave river. It has suffered numerous floods throughout history, and the alluvial soil is very fertile. It can also be quite wet and foggy, making it a challenging environment for many winemakers. The Raboso grape in particular is highly resistant to fungal diseases and rot, so it is well adapted to this climate.

Today, Giorgio Cecchetto is highly committed to getting the most out of his beloved Raboso. Behind the winery are fields of Raboso grapes in which rows of vines are interspersed with mulberry trees, replicating how they were traditionally planted. Inside the winery, Raboso wines are ageing in local woods such as chestnut, pear and cherry, rather than in French and American oak which are usually preferred by winemakers around the world.

According to Mr. Cecchetto, "Continuing our traditions is an essential step for the survival of our heritage and our land, we must pay homage to the 500 years of history of the people, our people, who have maintained and preserved the tradition of Raboso, always looking to the future with hope and confidence".

In 1986, he decided it was time to expand his horizons; he wanted Raboso to be known and appreciated beyond the boundaries of his home area. He made it his mission.

Today, he owns three production facilities in the province of Treviso and his innovative but traditional approach is paying off: the Cecchetto Giorgio Winery has become a benchmark in winemaking and is highly respected and admired by all local wine producers and consumers.
