Champagne Taittinger

Taittinger is the commitment of a name, of a family that has always been very clear that having its name on the labels is a great responsibility and a constant requirement.

Today, Pierre-Emmanuel Taittinger, who has embodied this commitment for 40 years, shares his passion at the helm of the maison with his sons Clovis and Vitalie, in a perfect balance between the knowledge of the past and the excitement of the future.

However, the Taittinger dynasty goes back a long way. Three generations have left their mark on the history of the firm, on the spirit and style of Taittinger and even on Champagne itself.

In 1915, the young Parisian officer Pierre Taittinger was assigned to the Château de la Marquetterie, in the heart of the Champagne vineyards, without knowing that one day this place would become the cradle of his family's destiny. When he became a politician and deputy in Paris, he wanted to settle in Champagne and bought the Château there in 1932.

Thus began the Taittinger adventure in Champagne. Pierre Taittinger relied on his partner Paul Evêque, and then on his sons, François, Jean and Claude, to run the business.

In 1940, second lieutenant Michel Taittinger, Pierre's son, gave up his life at the age of 20, fighting on the last bridge of the Seine, in an action that reinforced the family values of duty, courage and honour.

François Taittinger, Pierre's third son, joined the company at the beginning of World War II and in 1945 was put in charge of Taittinger, until his accidental death in 1960. However, before passing on, he renamed the maison's production, to assign it the family name; the Taittinger brand was born.

When Jean Taittinger, Pierre's son, joined the Taittinger house in 1946, his brother François entrusted him with the mission of developing the surface and quality of the Taittinger vineyard, a task to which he devoted himself for years, travelling all over Champagne and acquiring a great knowledge of the local terroir.

After the death of his brother François in 1960, Claude Taittinger took the reins of the House, at the helm of which he remained until 2006, strongly marking the Taittinger identity footprint. He placed the brand in a universe of elegance and communication and strengthened the Taittinger domain by planting, from the 1960s onwards, some 140 hectares of vines.

Pierre-Emmanuel Taittinger initiated the most recent history of the firm by acquiring the family maison, being very clear that he had to remain faithful to the style and essence of the house: the family.
