Compañía de Vinos de Telmo Rodríguez
Telmo Rodríguez and Pablo Eguzkiza started work on their wine project in 1994 with, as they admit, few resources but plenty of ideas. The firm they set up, Compañía de Vinos de Telmo Rodríguez, has grown based on the pair's travels around winemaking regions to understand and experience Spain as a complex and unique winemaking country with incredibly diverse and rich landscapes.
Top quality winemaking traditions, experience in Bordeaux and a passion for wine are three of the key features of the company set up by Telmo Rodríguez (with experience in the family winery Remelluri as well as at various Bordeaux Châteux) and Pablo Eguzkiza (a disciple of Jean Claude Berrouet, from prestigious wineries such as Petrus, and with experience himself in La Rioja at the Barón de Oña or Remelluri wineries). They both share a commitment to vineyards from a wide range of different areas, some long-forgotten, others waiting to become known, and now produce wines in regions as varied and far-apart as La Rioja, Ribera del Duero, Rueda, Valdeorras, Alicante, Toro, Málaga, Cigales, and Ávila.
Behind the image somewhat like a British nobleman which Rodriguez transmits, there is an expert wine-lover eager to help young winegrowers just starting out and to improve the reputation and image of Spanish wine. His arrival in many almost forgotten regions where most wine was sold cheaply in bulk helped them become producers of fine elegant wines. Nowadays the company's wines are a reflection of spectacular landscapes, local grape varieties and winemaking traditions. The results are clear to see in the numerous international awards their wines have received.
