Familia Torres
Miguel Torres is one of the great reference points in the quality wine and brandy sector, in Spain and worldwide, with over 50 brands on the market and a presence in more than 150 countries.
The company, still today a family concern, was founded in 1870 in Vilafranca del Penedès. From then onwards, successive generations have preserved the century-old tradition held by the Torres name. At this present time, it's the fourth and fifth generations who are running the company: Miguel A. Torres in the role of president with Miguel Torres Maczassek as general manager.
Torres offers an extensive range of products, which includes such emblematic wines as Grans Muralles and Mas La Plana, originating from very privileged estates, along with such popular brands as the traditional Viña Sol, Sangre de Toro, Viña Esmeralda, De Casta and Coronas. Among its highly reputed brandies, Torres 10 is the most famous and Torres 20 has twice received awards as the best brandy in the world.
Torres is a company that constantly moves forward. Since 1963 it has also counted amongst its wineries the emblematic Jean Leon, making single vineyard wines in the heart of the Penedès, and in the last decade it has made new incursions into other Spanish denominations such as Rioja, with its Torres Altos Ibéricos; the Ribera del Duero, providing its Celeste wine range; Rías Baixas, producing its Pazo das Bruxas Albariño; and Rueda, with its Verdejo. One of its most recent projects has been the Habitat line, presenting organic wines from the Penedès. Far beyond the Spanish frontiers, the company produces wine on the American continent, where it became established in 1979 with the foundation of Miguel Torres Chile, a winery which owns some 400 ha in the vicinity of the Andes with its vines cultivated organically. In 1983 it also opened the Californian winery Marimar Estate, with vineyards in Russian River Valley and Sonoma County. In relation to them all, the firm is dedicated to undergoing research and to the recuperation of age-old varieties, and makes its commitment to the environment one of the principal values upheld in its work, as shown by the saying: "The more we look after the earth, the better wine we get".
Torres is a company with international renown and its success, prestige, and innovative and enterprising spirit have been acknowledged on many occasions with numerous awards and recognitions. Among the most notable, the one awarded by the British magazine, Drinks International, which has now twice singled out Torres (in 2014 and 2015), as the most highly regarded wine brand in the world (World's Most Admired Wine Brand), making it the first winery not only in Spain but also in Europe to achieve this distinction.
