Mas Comtal

Albert and Joan Mila decided in the early 1980s to establish their own winery in the same house where they grew up and came to love the world of viticulture.

Located in the most easterly part of the Penedès region, at the foot of the Ordal and Garraf mountain ranges, influenced by the sea and protected to the north by the beautiful massif of Montserrat, Mas Comtal enjoys excellent conditions for vine-growing: 40 ha. of vineyards planted with the native variety Xarel.lo, Chardonnay originally from Burgundy, and three red grapes from Bordeaux: merlot, cabernet sauvignon and cabernet franc, varieties which have so far enabled them to make wines of high expression that clearly indicate their place of origin.

Artistry and wine come together too in the Petrea range, offering wines made with the choicest grapes and only in the best vintages. The Petrea wine labels are a reproduction of artistic work expressly designed for the purpose: David Ribes, Josep Maria Casas and Marisa Carrió are some of the chosen artists.

Mas Comtal is a member of Qualidès (Quality and Penedès), an association of various wineries of the Penedès region (among which are Albet i Noya, Augustus, Can Feixes, Can Ràfols dels Caus, Torres, Gramona, Jané Ventura, Jean Leon), set up in 2004 in order to champion the portrayal of wineries respecting the environment and enjoying their own landscape identity, and thereby enable their estate wines to position themselves at the highest levels.
